LOA.

Had a long discussion about the secret/law of attraction with Derick, Ghost and J just now. J eventually gave up because it was too tiring - -; Lol. I was pretty amused when I reached and heard what they were talking about. Decided not to say too much. Good thing I did, otherwise i'd probably end up exhausted like J =/

I actually have a few posts I wrote about my opinion on the law of attraction. Hmmm.

Anyway. Had a good time tonight. I'm happy :)

The Shawshank Redemption

Watched this yesterday. It's a super long show - worth a watch if you're patient enough. I was shown an extract of it once before; probably when I took Sociology in poly. It was about being institutionalized.

"Dear fellas, I can't believe how fast things move on the outside. I saw an automobile once when I was a kid, but now they're everywhere. The world went and got itself in a big damn hurry.

The parole board got me into this halfway house called "The Brewer" and a job bagging groceries at the Foodway. It's hard work and I try to keep up, but my hands hurt most of the time. I don't think the store manager likes me very much.

Sometimes after work, I go to the park and feed the birds. I keep thinking Jake might just show up and say hello, but he never does. I hope wherever he is, he's doin' okay and makin' new friends.

I have trouble sleepin' at night. I have bad dreams like I'm falling. I wake up scared. Sometimes it takes me a while to remember where I am. Maybe I should get me a gun and rob the Foodway so they'd send me home. I could shoot the manager while I was at it, sort of like a bonus.

I guess I'm too old for that sort of nonsense any more. I don't like it here. I'm tired of being afraid all the time. I've decided not to stay. I doubt they'll kick up any fuss. Not for an old crook like me."
- Brooks

Spending a long time in anything builds these walls around you. You feel safe in them. Once you're out, that's when all the feelings of insecurity and fear start pouring in. Safety/security is a primary need in Maslow's heirarchy. You can hardly do anything else without it.
I wish I had someone to protect me.
We're moving into the fourth month of the year and i'm still, on occasion, an insecure, emotional mess. I'm okay most of the time. I just wish these emo episodes would stop occurring.
& I wish there was someone I could call mine.
"Let me tell you something my friend. Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a man insane." - Red
I don't know why it hurts.
It depends, doesn't it? If you're hoping for something that's possible to achieve yourself, then hope can be a huge motivation.
But it does.
But if you're hoping for something that isn't up to you. Yes. It can drive you insane.

Law of Attraction

Do you believe that what you think can have an impact on your life and the people around you?

The law of attraction in action:

Self-fulfilling prophecy - A self-fulfilling prophecy is a prediction that directly or indirectly causes itself to become true, by the very terms of the prophecy itself, due to positive feedback between belief and behavior.

Placebo effect - The placebo effect is a medical phenomenon where the results of a medical treatment are affected by the patient's ideas about how effective the treatment is.

From Wikipedia.

Just some food for thought. Randomly thought of it on the way to school [with my mind on my OB report; self-fulfilling prophecy is one of the concepts we're using].

Yes, it's true that what you think can only change your perception of a certain situation, and does nothing to change the situation itself. But this small change in perception can result in a butterfly effect that leads you to do greater things. After all, you are in control of your own life. You decide what you want.

Believe.

[Lai liao. Told you my Live Love Believe works in some kind of Maslow's hierarchy -.-]

...And tadaa! Everything appeared.

So maybe the world was created 5 minutes ago. The computer screen i'm looking at was created 5 minutes ago. What i have, what i'm doing was all created 5 minutes ago. And i was created 5 minutes ago with all the memories and knowledge i have now, with the personality i have now, with the family and friends i know of now. I was created, and i just knew everything.

No.

Because i was created for a purpose. My existence means something. I'm not just something created out of nothing; you can't do that.

I can't be continuing to do something that i wasn't doing until 5 minutes ago. Besides, how would i know what i'm doing, just like that? If that was the case, no one would need to learn anything because we just popped into the world knowing everything that we already do.

In that case, there's no such thing as memory as well. What truly is memory is only up to 5 minutes ago, anything else is merely knowledge, the knowledge that was created when i was created 5 minutes ago.

Alternatively.

I could be a cell. A puppet. Controlled by a higher being. Maybe i don't think at all. Maybe there's no such thing as life. No autonomy. No one is who he/she really is. Everything in life just falls on you and all you can do is take it. Not like there's anything you can do.

Do you want that? Do you believe that?

I know what i live for. I know what i want. And i'm going to get it.

Are you going to stop me? :)

Deviance

I believe in rules. Sure I do. If there weren't any rules, how could you break them? ~Leo Durocher

I'm basically going to copy stuff from Wiki because i don't feel like saying anything currently [although yes i've talked about deviance quite a number of times in my other blogs/journals already]. So, umm, yeah. Just a simple post about random stuff :D

"Deviations are not deviant by nature, but are caused when institutions arbitrarily institute particular prescriptions or proscriptions. Therefore, deviation is simply what is defined as not normal by norms, values, or laws."

Merton's Strain Theory
Conformist: Accepts cultural goals and the 'right' means to achieve them.
Innovator: Accepts cultural goals but achieves them in a different way.
Ritualist: Rejects cultural goals but goes about doing stuff the 'right' way.
Retreatist: Rejects cultural goals and institutional means.
Rebel: Seeks new cultural goals and means.

I'm glad i'm among a group of people who all strive to be different :)

But then again, are people deviating to conform? As in, like, everyone wants to be different, so i have to be different to be like everyone else.

Zzz -.-

Strength from within

Live. Love. Believe. These three words are extremely powerful. They keep me alive and remind me of who i am. And they make me powerful too.

If you're stressed out by anything, just keep in mind - you've taken all the stress till now. Being able to do that is no mean feat. You should be proud of yourself. Reassure yourself that you're strong. And since you've done so well so far, nothing else is gonna stop you. You are in control of your life, and if you don't want to help yourself, no one else can.

Believe in yourself.

I am proud of myself for taking a step to make my own life better. It's not easy. Really. But eventually, because of what i did, i'll stand to gain.

I've matured mentally. And there's still so much more to learn.
